Full Pink Moon
April 20, 6:25 a.m. (EDT)
It is the month of the full pink moon, named after flowers that appear abundantly in the early spring.
It also happens to be the name of one of my favorite songs:
Nick Drake’s Pink Moon

I stopped along the shore near New Haven last night. The moon was just clearing the hill on the opposite side of the harbor/river mouth. Wouldn’t you know–it was pink.
I’ll bet that was a beautiful sight.
I was up at just the right hour yesterday and caught a pink sunrise, the horizon was a brilliant brushstroke of color, the kind that makes you pause and wonder.
Is it silly to miss that VW commercial that borrowed this song? It always made me nostalgic for college road trips.
Hey Tigereye,
I don’t know about silly…I just spent several minutes considering a llama as an online icon.
There used to be a video of this song that was done on a night road trip. It really made me nostalgic for those anonymous stretches of road, that bittersweet and temporary freedom of the in-between.
I can always count on you to post something amazing Ivy!
OK, this is gonna sound really corny….
This post made me realize what I like about your writing. I don’t always “get” poetry and such, and some of the things you like aren’t necessarily things I would seek out, but they always make me feel kinda happy ad peaceful. Does that make sense?
Thanks, Wanda. That does make sense….and it is wonderful to hear. At some point, I think I decided that could be the purpose of this site…to find those touchstone like images, those talismans. I don’t always remember this purpose but I like the idea of having a place that re-energizes.
I like that aspect of our connections, too, learning about things that we wouldn’t necessarily seek out.
Ah, Nick Drake! That takes me back.
Ah, this is my first exposure to Nick Drake. Thank you.
Hi Pandemonic,
This song was new to me…I heard it for the first time last fall. I would have loved it when I was younger, too.
Thanks for listening, Kelly. This is one of the songs I can listen to over and over. It will probably remind me of the bittersweet of this year. It has that melancholy feel to it that is appealing to me.
